California Raisin’s Cousin Rose?

I have been living at my Auntie M’s for nearly a year since her health started to decline and she has these embroidered towels hanging in the bathroom.  Well if you have ever cared for someone who is ill you know that you spend an ENORMOUS amount of time sitting in the bathroom. Anywho, I keep staring at this towel and I see sunglasses and a mouth and a nose.  Not sure if it is really obvious... read more

D Day has arrived!

Also known as diet day! Yes the time has come once more to try and shed a few unwanted pounds.  (Oh who am I kidding I need to shed a TON of unwanted pounds). I hate dieting just about as much as I hate cleaning house.  (which is A LOT)  I just hope that I will remember to be nice to the folks who love me lumps and all because they deserve a medal for sure. It would be nice if they could invent... read more

James Blake is such a sweatheart!

No that is NOT a typo! I was listening to Andy Roddick’s day one interview at usopen.org today and as he was describing how he felt about James Blake I was nodding my head in agreement. Anyone who has ever watched James Blake play or listened to him give an interview will agree that this man is amazing.  He is just one of the many players who plays from the heart.   He has a kindness about... read more

Dog day afternoons

This is a photo I took of my little min pin when she was outside playing in the yard. She is such a sweetheart – I don’t know what I would do without her.  Read More →

Snake in the Grass

Nope not talking about “you know who” – I am talking about an actual snake that I just about stepped on while walking my dog. I think he/she was more afraid of me than I was of her/him. They sure are pretty when they are in motion and going AWAY from you.  Read More →

The “downfall” of television

I just watched this new show on ABC that is called “down fall”.   It is a new game show where contestants answer questions on top of the roof of a building.  The gifts that they are trying to win are on a conveyor belt headed for the edge of the building.  If they don’t answer in time the gifts fall over the edge of the building and are destroyed. Seriously? There are folks in... read more

Health Care

Way back in 1991 we got health insurance.   It cost us $300 a month for the three of us and we hung onto it for over 15 years.  We never missed a payment.  Rarely used it and to thank us for being loyal customers they kept jacking up the premiums. Every year we would adjust our wallets in order to keep the insurance but back in 2009 the cost of the insurance policy finally exceeded $1000.00 a month. ... read more

Feeding the local wildlife

I woke up this morning (well okay so technically it was afternoon but whatever) and I wandered down to my office to find that my desk had been invaded by the local wildlife. There was a trail of ants marching too and fro carrying little bits of what appeared to be last night’s midnight snack.  (I really do need to learn how to throw stuff away when I am done with it!) Anywhooooooo while... read more

We didn’t get a refund

AKA:  My appliances apparently do not understand English. This year we didn’t get a refund from Uncle Sam – in fact he nicely requested that we pay him promptly on April 15th.  Now most of you are probably thinking that this is a good thing because it means we made more money than normal.  NOPE. Our lovely son grew out of the EIC bracket and left us in a lurch.  (inconsiderate little... read more
